Seminar Description

David Grand’s seminar presents the Natural Flow EMDR Model, which is based on the belief that all healing is a creative process. Natural Flow EMDR will demonstrate how to enhance the powerful tool of EMDR – The Creative Healing Model.

Day One will address the applications of Natural Flow to clinical work, Day Two the applications to working with athletes, performers and artists (both professional and recreational). This model is built upon the basic protocols and procedures of EMDR yet allows for informed modifications and treatment of a variety of conditions. It is an empirically driven conceptualization of techniques which are both integrated from other approaches (Somatic Experience (SE), resourcing, ego state) and innovations of practice (eye movements of varied speeds/directions, use of color, continuous bilateral stimulation). It is based on the belief that EMDR works because both the problems and the potential solutions are held in the client’s system.

This approach entails: “essential listening” and titration of the intensity of distress. It is a “no assumptions model” where the healing process is supported by suspending all assumptions and carefully attending to all “in the moment” verbal and meta-communications emanating from the client. This is potentiated by a natural and flowing targeted EMDR protocol combined with bilateral stimulation. In this manner the client is facilitated to process information until they arrive at their “essential truth” and resolution.

This workshop will combine lecture, group exercises, mini practica and live demonstrations with extensive handout material.

Workshop Faculty

David Grand, Ph.D.

David Grand, Ph.D. is a psychotherapist, author, creativity expert and acting coach. He holds a doctorate in Human Development/Clinical Social Work from the International University and has a Certificate in Psychoanalysis from SPSR. Dr. Grand developed THE GRAND SYSTEM of performance/creativity enhancement, and acting coaching. He also teaches scene work at Mike Nichol’s New Actor’s Workshop. He maintains a psychotherapy practice (specialization in trauma) in Manhattan and Long Island, NY. He is an EMDRIA approved consultant. Dr. Grand is the author of, EMOTIONAL HEALING AT WARP SPEED: THE POWER OF EMDR. His play, I WITNESS, about his experiences in treating survivors post-9/11, has been performed in staged readings in NY and LA. Dr. Grand has also lectured around the U.S. and internationally. He is the former chairman of EMDR-HAP and has coordinated trainings in Northern Ireland, Long Island and Brooklyn, NY. Dr. Grand is the developer of BioLateral Sound Recordings used by therapists worldwide. He has also been part of an MRI research team studying trauma’s effects on brain function.
